You’re invited to explore the Gardens

The Tollemache family enjoy sharing their passion for the beautiful gardens, opening them to visitors throughout the summer. Helmingham boasts a relaxed atmosphere for visitors to enjoy the serenity and tranquillity of the gardens as you lose yourself in the plethora of colour, scents and history on offer.

Admissions

Tickets are available to buy from the shop on the day, there’s no need to book in advance. For special events, please check our Events page, as these will require advance booking and may have different opening times. On event days, and in rare cases like severe weather, the estate may be closed to general admission. To avoid disappointment, please check our website on the day of your visit for the latest updates.

We accept payment by card, but please note that we have no card payment facility at the entrance gate on event days.

Children | £4.50 per person (Under 5’s free!)
Groups of +30 people | £8.00 per person

How much is it to visit the gardens?

Adult entry is £9.00, children can get in for £4.50, and under 5s are free. Last entry is at 4pm, and we close at 5pm.

Tickets are available from the shop on the day of visiting.

Please be aware that special events may alter opening times and prices, visit our events page to find out when these are happening.

Can I bring my dog along with me to Helmingham?

Well-behaved dogs are allowed across the whole Helmingham Estate, but must be on a lead. Please also be aware, there may be deers grazing across the estate and dogs must be well-trained or under control to protect the wildlife. Similarly, during events we ask dogs are kept on leads to ensure the safety of other visitors and dogs alike.

Can I visit the shops and café without paying admission?

Visitors are welcome to visit the Coach House Courtyard, Thrive and Cornercopia without purchasing a Garden ticket, so why not join us for some retail therapy in beautiful surroundings and relax with a treat from Wright’s Café.

Is parking at Helmingham free?

There is free ample parking on site, including for coaches.

Is the site wheelchair accessible?

The site is wheelchair accessible, our shop staff will explain the alternate routes around the gardens for those using wheelchairs or assisted walking devices. We have blue-badge parking closer to the courtyard and drop-offs are permitted closer to the shop entry.

Can I use my Historic Houses card?

We do accept Historic Houses membership for garden entry. Please note these are not valid on event days.

Are there concessions for carers?

Getting here

Helmingham is nestled in the East Suffolk countryside, about 9 miles north of Ipswich. Here’s how to find your way:

By car
Pop IP14 6EF into your sat nav for our exact location or get directions here. Helmingham is located on the B1077, easily accessible from the A12, A14 and A140. There’s free parking on-site, subject to availability on a first come first serve basis.

By public transport
Ipswich Train station can be accessed from across East Anglia with trains arriving from Norwich, Cambridge and London Liverpool Street. From here Helmingham can be reached via buses or by taxi.
