Music, moonlight and Helmingham - a magical combination
Queen v ABBA
26th June 2026
Helmingham Hall is excited to welcome guests for a set of intimate concert experiences, set beneath the glow of a giant moon in the magnificent Great Hall.
Join us on Friday 26th June at 8.30pm, as the acclaimed Kavolini string ensemble returns for an enchanting evening of classical music.
Kavolini, a dynamic string group based in Norfolk, was formed in 2015 by musicians who have performed with prestigious British orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. The ensemble’s members have also toured globally, working with renowned bands like Blur, The Cranberries, and The Pretenders.
Experience an unforgettable evening where the intimacy of the Kavolini String Quartet meets the timeless pop anthems of Queen and ABBA. Some of the most iconic songs in pop history are reimagined through the rich, expressive sound of strings, offering a fresh perspective on music loved by generations.
From the uplifting sparkle of “Dancing Queen” to the theatrical brilliance of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the programme celebrates the creativity and energy that made these bands global sensations. The playful character of “Mamma Mia” and the driving momentum of “Don’t Stop Me Now” bring brightness and vitality to the quartet’s sound, while “Money, Money, Money” adds a touch of drama and flair. Elsewhere, the bold spirit of “I Want To Break Free” shines through in a vibrant and inventive arrangement.
Throughout the evening, imaginative scoring reveals new textures and colours within these familiar hits. Melodies that once filled arenas are transformed into an intimate chamber music experience, highlighting the craft behind the songs while preserving their unmistakable character.
Whether you are a lifelong fan of Queen and ABBA or simply enjoy hearing classic pop in a new way, this concert promises an evening of nostalgia, energy, and musical discovery as Kavolini brings these legendary songs to life through the power of strings.
