Lady Tollemache has invited two very experienced and knowledgeable speakers to Helmingham for the garden lectures this year. Dr James Compton a Fellow of Botany at Reading University and Fergus Garrett, Head Gardener at Great Dixter, both have dedicated their whole careers or perhaps some would say their lives, to plants and the gardening world but both in very different ways.

Lecture days are restricted to about 50 attendees and are very special days of informative lectures with full colour slides, questions and discussion, fine food and stunning surroundings – it is the only opportunity this year for members of the public to cross the drawbridge and enter the Hall for a reception in the Great Hall.

Thursday 23 June – James Compton

We are truly delighted that Dr. James Compton, such a well travelled and knowledgable Botanist, will be giving two lectures on such interesting and varied subjects.

Morning Lecture:
'Plants for Late Winter and Spring'
Afternoon Lecture:
‘Travels in China'

Thursday 1 September – Fergus Garrett

A fascinating day with the very experienced Ferus Garrett. Fergus has worked with the owner of Great Dixter 'Christopher Loyd' to help achieve his dream in creating one of the most experimental, exciting and constantly changing gardens of our time.
